Fifa vice president Jack Warner has called for the introduction of a salary cap in football. The CONCACAF president "plotted a new future for football" at a conference on Wednesday in London.

Warner said: "A salary cap should be introduced to allow for a more level playing field among clubs. ... Otherwise, smaller clubs will never be able to compete with high-spending ones. Never."

Warner went on to call for an annual six to eight-week window where there is "no football involving professional football." He said that would allow players to recover and alleviate disputes between clubs and countries.
