Chasing the Sun 2 – A Story for South Africa – has been made available to all DStv subscribers to enjoy over the 15 June – 17 June long weekend in South Africa as the nation celebrates Youth Day.

SuperSport is proud to announce that the iconic story of the Springboks’ second successive Rugby World Cup triumph, Chasing the Sun 2 – A Story for South Africa – will be available to all DStv subscribers over the upcoming long weekend between 15 and 17 June 2024.

The five-part docu-series that captivated the nation after its premiere on 24 March 2024, will be broadcast on Mzansi Wethu (DStv channel 163) and SuperSport Variety 4 (209) starting Saturday 15 June. The series is currently available for binge-viewing on DStv CatchUp.

Inspired by captain Siya Kolisi and the Rassie Erasmus-led management team, the Springboks made history by capturing South Africa’s fourth Rugby World Cup trophy in France last year. The highs, lows, blood, sweat, and tears were beautifully encapsulated in Chasing the Sun 2, the sequel to Chasing the Sun, which captured the same achievement in Japan in 2019.

SuperSport CEO Rendani Ramovha, one of the executive producers for the series, said sharing the story with a wider audience was part of the essence of making the series truly feel like a story for South Africa.

“Chasing The Sun 2 is titled ‘A Story for South Africa’, so it was imperative to us to make sure that as many South Africans got to see this story and really appreciate the work that went into the Springboks’ fourth World Cup victory,” Ramovha said.

“As SuperSport, we are committed to keep finding and celebrating these narratives of African excellence, because they remind us of what is possible.”

BLUEPRINT FOR COMING TOGETHER AS A NATION

Ramovha’s sentiments were shared by series director Gareth Whittaker, who heads T+W, the award-winning production house that created the Chasing the Sun documentary series.

“At a time when we are looking to come together as a nation, who better to look to than Rassie Erasmus and the Springboks? They have provided a blueprint for coming together for a bigger purpose, and we hope that as many of our fellow South Africans watch, cry, laugh and take the deeper lesson of a story that resonates in every community,” Whittaker said.

The 2023 World Cup winners have already set their sights on an unprecedented third title on the trot, as they build to the 2027 World Cup. The new Springbok era will begin with a one-off test against Wales at Twickenham on 22 June, followed by the Castle Lager Incoming series in July, with SA welcoming Ireland (two tests) and Portugal. In August, the Castle Lager Rugby Championship will begin, while all the action will be exclusively live on SuperSport.

Ramovha added: “In what world would anyone doubt the Springboks making it three World Cup wins on the trot come 2027? We are excited to see them start their 2024 season on 22 June, and then the hugely anticipated series against Ireland that follows in July.

“As the World of Champions, we are immensely proud to be so closely associated to the world's best rugby team. We look forward to the next generation of stars that will emerge alongside national icons, and we will continue to chronicle their incredible stories.”
