Hunt needs to look elsewhere for goals

SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt insists someone needs to lift the goalscoring burden off Bradley Grobler's shoulders as they prepare to host Magesi at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Saturday.

Matsatsantsa are the joint-lowest scorers in the Betway Premiership alongside strugglers Richards Bay, having found the back of the net just three times in their opening 10 matches.

Grobler remains the club's talisman despite his advancing years and bagged his 114th league goal against the Natal Rich Boyz on December 6 to close within nine of Siyabonga Nomvethe's record as the PSL's all-time leading goalscorer.

The 36-year-old striker was making only his third appearance of the campaign since suffering a knee injury in August which saw him miss the first seven games in the top flight.

Hunt's side arrested a three-match winless run with the 1-0 triumph over Richards Bay and it was also the first time they had scored since beating Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 on October 26.

Dikwena tsa Meetse claimed their maiden top-flight victory against Golden Arrows (1-0) on September 26, but have only picked up three points from their last five outings, the pick being a 2-2 draw with Chiefs.

Clinton Larsen's side find themselves one point off the foot of the table in 15th place after suffering back-to-back defeats against Chippa United (2-0) and Marumo Gallants (3-1).

"We can't keep relying on Bradley, he's been doing it for... I don't know how many years. He had a major operation in August after the [MTN8] cup and then he was out.

"I played him the last two weeks, he looked like he was struggling. I left him out [against Richards Bay] and he came on and scored the winner, I had to tell him something.

"I think he gave the ball away five times and then his first touch was a goal - that's Bradley, a fantastic goalscorer and a good servant for SuperSport."

SuperSport United - Tashreeq Morris is one of the other two players to have scored for Matsatsantsa this term, opening his account with the winner against Chiefs in what was his second appearance since joining the club on a free transfer in October. The 30-year-old striker was ineffective against the Natal Rich Boyz and will be looking to end his four-game goal drought for the visit of Magesi.

Magesi - Wonderboy Makhubu continues to impress for Dikwena tsa Meetse, having played a crucial role in their promotion after netting 11 times in 30 games last season. The on-loan Sekhukhune United striker got off the mark in 2024-25 with the winner against Arrows and was also on target in the 2-2 draw with Amakhosi, opening the scoring after just six minutes.
