Former undisputed lightweight champion moves to junior welterweight

Teofimo Lopez, who was the undisputed lightweight champion,moved up to the junior welterweight division to score a seventh-round technical knockout win over Pedro Campa at the Resorts World Las Vegas on Saturday night.

Lopez dominated before scoring a knockdown in the seventh round, with referee Tony Weeks waving the fight off at 2 minute 14 seconds into the round.

Lopez improved his record to 17-1; 13 and Campa’s record dropped to 34-2-1; 23.

On the same card the 19-year-old junior middleweight prospect Xander Zayas 14-0; 10 won on a fifth-round technical knockout against Elias Espadas 22-5; 15. Zayas scored a knockdown in the opening round before the referee Russell Mora stopped the fight after another knockdown in in the fifth round. The time was 23 seconds.

IGOR SHEVADZUTSKIY WINS ON POINTS

Heavyweight prospect Igor Shevadzutskiy 10-0; 8 won on an eight-round unanimous points decision over Kevin “Kingpin” Johnson 35-20-1; 19 on Saturday night at the ECB Gym in Hamburg, Germany.

WESLEY FERRER WINS NBA INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE

Wesley “El Bongocero” Ferrer 17-1-1; 8 won on an eight-round majority decision points decision against Jayson “La Maravilla” Velez 30-9-1; 21 to win the NBA Intercontinental title on Saturday night at the Plaza Live Orlando in Orlando, Florida.

The scores were 77-75 twice and 76-76.

CARLOS GONGORA WINS IN FOUR

Carlos “Carlito’s Way” Gongora 21-1; 16 who is ranked at No 12-super middleweight by the WBC, won on a fourth technical knockout against Oscar Riojas 28-16-1: 16 on Saturday night at the Memorial Hall in Melrose, Massachusetts.

Welterweight Brandon Higgins won 9-2; 5 on a sixth-round unanimous points decision against the 47-year-old Dustin Reinhold 7-6; 3 The scores were 59-54 and 57-56 twice.

In a junior welterweight bout “Marvelous” Mykquan Williams 18-0-1; 8 scored an eight-round unanimous points decision over Saul Corral 23-20; 13. The scores were 79-73 and 80-72 twice.

2016 Olympian light heavyweight Juan Carlos Carrillo 8-0; 6 won on a third-round technical knockout over Victor Fonseca 18-12-1; 14. .
