As cup winners Magesi return to Betway Premiership action this weekend, coach Clinton Larsen has warned they could still finds themselves battling against relegation.

Newly promoted Magesi shocked last Saturday with a 2-1 win over hot favourites Mamelodi Sundowns in the Carling Knockout final in Bloemfontein and are in East London this weekend to take on Chippa United in the league.

Magesi have won one of their six league games this season and are in 12th spot, only two points above the relegation zone.

But Larsen is hoping that their cup success now rubs off onto what will be a long league campaign.

“I keep saying every victory builds confidence. It builds self-belief, and we've been doing that since (Lamontville) Golden Arrows, when we got our first win in the league,” he explained.

“Immediately the players started to think to themselves, ‘hey, we belong here. We can compete here’. And we followed that up with an away point against a star-studded Cape Town City team, and followed that up with a win against Pirates. It's now eight games unbeaten.

“With each game you play, the self-belief grows, the confidence grows, and hopefully this make us a more competitive team in the league, because that is our bread and butter, and that's where we want to be more successful, so we going to try and accomplish that,” Larsen promised.

“It's not going to be easy over 30 games. We know that we might still be in a relegation fight, but I think if we keep fighting the way we did in the final, we got a big chance to stay up and surprise a lot of people.”
