Hermann and Second put the Warriors back on course
Jordan Hermann’s unbeaten century put the Dafabet Warriors back on course on day three of their CSA 4-day Challenge match against the North West Dragons at the JB Marks Oval on Monday.
At stumps, the Warriors were on 214 for three and led the Dragons by 28 runs with seven wickets in hand.
Hermann’s unbeaten 112 came off 181 deliveries and featured 17 fours and a single six.
It is his third First Class ton. The left-handed opener lost three partners early in the Warriors’ second innings after they had been asked to follow-on by the Dragons’ captain Wihan Lubbe.
Diego Rosier was the first of Hermann’s batting partners to leave the crease. The 29-year-old opener fell for four off seven balls.
The next batter to desert Hermann in the middle was Tristan Stubbs who managed 15 off 27 deliveries.
26.1 overs later, Hermann lost his third partner when Matthew Breetzke fell to Caleb Seleka’s spin for 38 off 90 balls.
For a moment, it looked like the visitors were in danger of failing as they did in their first innings, but Hermann’s 101-run partnership with Rudi Second helped them avoid that.
Second, who top-scored for the Warriors in the first innings, played the perfect supporting role to Hermann’s knock.
At stumps, the allrounder was on 38 off 89 deliveries.
Duan Jansen, Kerwin Mungroo and Caleb Seleka took a single wicket each on day three, but it was Jansen who had the better figures.
The left-arm pacer conceded 16 runs in eight overs, while Mungroo conceded 18 in seven and Seleka was a little more expensive, going for 41 runs in eight overs.
Jansen is also the current leading wicket-taker for the Dragons in the match with six wickets for 47 runs in 24 overs.
