Chippa shoot down Arrows, rise to third
Chippa United defeated Golden Arrows 2-0 in a Betway Premiership match played at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha on Saturday night.
Goals from Siphelo Baloni and Andile Jali saw the Chilli Boys record a third win of the league season and rise to third place on the log, while Abafana Bes’thende suffered a third defeat and dropped to 10th.
Chippa had the first sight of goal six minutes into the match, with Bienvenu Eva Nga getting on the end of Malebogo Modise’s cross and heading goal-ward, only for Edward Maova to make a fine save.
And the hosts broke the deadlock on 27 minutes via Baloni, who latched onto Ayabulela Konqobe’s assist and fired home a right-footed shot for 1-0.
Arrows looked to fight back and Knox Mutizwa was denied by a fine save from Stanley Nwabali in the 33rd minute, ensuring the half closed in favour of the home side.
Chippa started the second half strongly and ultimately their pressure forced a foul in the 18-yard area from Thabani Zuke.
Jali took on the spot kick and converted in the 63rd for a 2-0 lead.

The Durban visitors responded well and created several chances for the likes of Thokozani Lukhele, Keenan Phillips and Nqobeko Dlamini, but the Chilli Boys were able to hold firm and secure all three points.
The teams will return to Betway Premiership action this coming midweek, with Chippa away to AmaZulu FC on Tuesday, 29 October, and Arrows at home to SuperSport United on Wednesday, 30 October.
