TS Galaxy fell short against Marumo Gallants in the Betway Premiership on Sunday evening, losing 2-1 to the Free State side at the Mbombela Stadium as they couldn’t find the late equaliser to get a share of the spoils.

Gallants caused trouble for the Galaxy defence from the onset and grabbed the lead almost immediately in the second minute of play.

Sphesihle Maduna’s poor first touch in midfield led to the Gallants attack taking advantage as Masindi Nemtajela finished from close range.

As the Rockets’ defensive error cost them to give away the lead early, it took some time for them to find their rhythm in the game as Gallants continued to threaten in the attack.

The home team finally had an opportunity through Keagan Dolly’s effort, however his strike was ruled offside.

The visitors continued to cause problems by almost doubling their lead through Monde Mphambaniso, who got on the end of Kamohelo Mahlatsi’s cross towards the end of the first half.

The halftime whistle arrived with Gallants looking like the more convincing team.

The second half saw the home team looking livelier, however they conceded yet again in the 55th minute as Daniel Msendami’s strike, after receiving a pass from Mlungisi Khumalo, made its way into the back of the net.

Puso Dithejane tested the Gallants defence with a curling shot which went just away from the frame of the goal in the 62nd minute, as Galaxy began to fight back harder.

The hosts finally pulled one back through Victor Letsoalo in the 67th minute, who combined with Dithejane to produce a sublime finish from close range.

Siwelele sa Marumo held on away from home in the final 10 minutes of play, as Dolly missed a sitter in what was Galaxy’s final chance to get the equaliserin Mbombela.

Gallants ultimately grabbed all three points in the fixture in a hard-fought victory.
