Guinea grab glimpse of hope, Burundi face repeat loss
The results from the Afcon qualifiers for the tournament to be hosted in Morocco next year produced entertainment and goals as nations went head-to-head for the bragging rights on who will be playing at the finals.
Guinea put up a dominating performance against Ethiopia in their Group H clash at the Alassane Ouattara Ebimpe Olympic Stadium on Saturday, keeping their hopes alive of qualifying for the tournament.
The victory for Guinea was their first in their qualifying campaign, and as things stand they are just one point adrift of second-placed Tanzania, adding a load of pressure for both teams to win their next matches.
Elsewhere, Morocco sank Central African Republic 5-0 at the Honneur Stadium, marking a spotless start to their campaign as they grabbed their third win in a row.
The Atlas Lions top Group B with nine points, with Gabon trailing five points behind in second place.
Burkina Faso defeated Burundi 2-0 in their repeat fixture at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium on Sunday evening, keeping themselves at the top of Group L and in pole position to qualify for the tournament to be hosted in Morocco next year.
