Bafana, Senegal and Cameroon steal the show in Friday’s qualifiers
South Africa, Senegal, Cameroon and Ivory Coast did not hold back in their respective 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Friday, as Matchday 3 ended in dramatic fashion across the continent.
Bafana Bafana ended their latest AFCON qualifier game week in second position in Group K following a 5-0 win against Congo at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Friday night.
Hugo Broos’s charges were in the mood to entertain the Gqeberha fanbase this week as goals by Teboho Mokoena (two), Bathusi Aubaas, Lyle Foster and Iqraam Rayners were enough for Bafana to bag maximum points on home soil.
Elsewhere, Senegal jotted down a one-sided 4-0 win against Malawi at Stade Me Abdoulaye Wade on Friday evening.
The Flames were reduced to 10 men after the 16th minute mark as goalkeeper Brighton Munthali fouled Sadio Mane as the final attacker en-route to goal.
It was one way traffic for Senegal thereafter as Pape Gueye, Boulaye Dia, Nicolas Jackson and Mane completed the 4-0 scoreline.
As it stands, Senegal occupy second spot in Group L, while Malawi suffered three consecutive defeats in their current 2025 AFCON qualifying bid.
Cameroon, meanwhile, solidified their status as Group J leaders after a convincing 4-1 win against Kenya at the Japoma Stadium.
Vincent Aboubaker gave the Indomitable Lions the lead in the eighth minute from the penalty spot, while efforts by Martin Hongla, Bryan Mbuemo and Christian Bassogog rounded off the score in Douala.
