No magic cup formula says Pirates boss
Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro says there is no magic formula for all his cup success despite winning yet another trophy with the club at the weekend.
In his two seasons in charge of Pirates, Riveiro has taken the club to back-to-back success in both the MTN8 and the Nedbank Cup with the Carling Knockout the only trophy they have missed out on over the last 24 months.
But if there is a secret recipe then the Spanish coach joked, he would make a killing out of it.
“If I had a formula, I'll be millionaire,” he quipped as Pirates celebrated victory in the Nedbank Cup final over league champions Mamelodi Sundowns at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.
“You know, I think it's … what can I say … we just try to work as hard as possible each and every day. We wouldn’t have success without all the people, who are behind us. And especially our group of players.
“You cannot win four trophies in a row ,if you are not in a proper place. It's not me, it's the club, that is Orlando Pirates, I have a fantastic group of players to work with, then we are adding something else there as well. As a technical staff, we trying to lead with an example of not giving one day for free and not taking anything for granted,” Riveiro explained.
“We’ve everything in order to create a competitive team. If during the process, we also manage to collect trophies, to improve the history of this institution, then all the better. “But yeah, there's nothing else than work every morning and spend a lot of hours, I guess like every other coach but, in the end, the players are the ones who are making a difference on the field.”
