South Africa lost the third and final ODI against Pakistan at the National Stadium in Karachi by eight wickets but won the series 2-1.

The Proteas are now looking forward to taking on New Zealand at home.

Chasing 186 for victory, Pakistan reached the required target with 72 balls to spare. Pakistan opener Sidra Ameen was the player of the match for her 68 (82b, 6x4).

Protea allrounder Nadine de Klerk was named player of the series. She claimed eight wickets, with a best of 4-32, and scored 113 runs with her 60 today also her highest ODI score.

She said she was happy to contribute to the team’s success in the ODI series.

“It was great to bounce back, following the whitewash in the T20s, so it’s great to get a series win in Pakistan. It was tough out there today and we just tried to string some partnerships together. We wanted to get around 200 to give our bowlers something to defend.”

South African captain Laura Wolvaardt said it was a disappointing way to end the series.

“We struggled to get partnerships together today. There were not enough runs to defend and we got caught out with the bat. The pitch was a bit slower than in the first game and it turned more. We didn’t have the greatest of starts and then struggled to get momentum after that.”

Pakistan captain Nida Dar was delighted with the win.

“It was a great achievement to finish on a high. I think it will be a good boost for the rest of the team. Hopefully it will continue for the Asian Games.”

The Proteas will be returning to South Africa for a series of three ODIs and five T20s against the White Ferns.

The first ODI is on 24 September in Potchefstroom.

The ODI series is part of the ICC Women's Championship 2022-25 qualification process ahead of the next 50-over World Cup.
