Cameroon gear up for Kenya thriller
Cameroon will be targeting another win in their Afcon qualifying campaign when they take on Kenya in a crucial Group J clash at the Japoma Stadium on Friday evening.
Kick-off is at 6pm CAT (SA, GMT+2)
CURRENT FORM
Cameroon are currently unbeaten in their qualifying campaign for the next Afcon but Kenya hold the same advantage.
Both teams will be looking for a win to top their group on the road to qualifying for the next tournament which will be held in 2025.
Placed second and third respectively, Zimbabwe are leading the pack in Group J with five points, and Namibia are placed fourth with no points collected thus far.
WHAT WAS SAID
Kenya coach Engin Firat has emphasised the importance of precision as the Harambee Stars go into this clash.
"We know how tough this will be, but I believe we've reached a point where only the finer details will determine the outcome," he said after the team's final practice at Police Sacco Stadium.
"It won’t be easy for Cameroon either," Firat added. "These two matches will decide whether we can make it back to Afcon or not."
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Andre Onana, Cameroon - The Manchester United goalkeeper was crucial in making sure that the Indomitable Lions avoid losing in their last two matches in the Afcon qualifiers, and will be aiming to keep a clean sheet in this fixture.
Duke Abuya, Kenya - Having scored in the match against Namibia in the qualifiers, Abuya will be hoping to replicate the same form against a strong Cameroon and perhaps pull off a potential “upset.”
HEAD-TO-HEAD
With no losses in four games versus Kenya, the hosts have fared well in their prior meetings with the country.
It was over 14 years ago in an international friendly, that they last played against one another.
