The DFL said the postponement of the game in Mainz's Mewa Arena was due to "heavy ice formation on the lower tiers, especially in the standing area, as well as on the arrival routes" which created "associated safety risks for spectators".

The DFL said a new date would be announced for the match soon.
This is the second match postponed this season due to heavy snowfall, both of which have featured Union Berlin away.
The first, between Bayern Munich and Union, was set to take place in December but will now take place on Wednesday in the Bavarian capital.
Union sit in 15th place, one spot and three points above Mainz who are in the relegation playoff position.
