Magesi earn a priceless point against Citizens
Betway Premiership newcomers Magesi battled bravely in the rain to come away from Athlone Stadium with a 0-0 draw against Cape Town City on Sunday.
Eric Tinkler's side made all the headway on home soil, but the closest they came to breaking the deadlock was when Heaven Sereetsi saw his shot come back off the woodwork early in the second half.
The Citizens (12th) remain ahead of Dikwena tsa Meetse (13th) on goal difference, although both teams went level with Richards Bay (11th) on five points.
City looked to build on their 1-0 win over SuperSport United on 28 September, while Magesi were riding the crest of a wave after beating Orlando Pirates 3-2 in the Carling Knockout round of 16 last weekend.
The game marked a special occasion for Thami Mkhize, who was making a club record 250th appearance for the hosts, who created the better chances in the wet conditions.
Amadou Soukouna managed to hit the target on 12 minutes following good build-up play, but he was unable to get his shot past Elvis Chipezeze.
Darwin Gonzalez should perhaps have done better after arriving unmarked inside the box to get on the end of Mkhize's cross and directing his header too close to Chipezeze midway through the first half.
The visitors were able to cope in the pouring rain for the most part and held on to ensure the score remained goalless at the break.
Heaven Sereetsi almost made an immediate impact off the bench following his introduction at the start of the second half when he rattled the crossbar with a fierce strike from range in the 51st minute.
It was the closest the Citizens would come in the second 45 minutes as Dikwena tsa Meetse held firm at the back to pick up a potentially precious point.
