Chippa agree switch with Stellenbsoch
Chippa United have agreed to switch fixtures with Stellenbosch for Wednesday night’s Betway Premiership clash but the Western Cape outfit look condemned to being homeless for some time to come.
Stellenbosch were supposed to host Wednesday’s game at the Danie Craven Stadium but the poor condition of the field has seen the stadium not used for football since the Winelands club beat TS Galaxy in the MTN8 quarterfinal in early August.
After that, Stellenbosch moved homes matches in both league and cup competition to the Cape Town Stadium and Athlone Stadium and also the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
Chippa agreed to switch their fixture against Stellenbosch, which means that Chippa are the home team on Wednesday and will be away then when two clubs meet in the return fixture, which is scheduled for late April.
Stellenbosch will have to move next Wednesday’s league game at home against Marumo Gallants to Cape Town because the Danie Craven Stadium is not yet ready.
It could be a while before it is ruled fit for use in the Premier Soccer League because this weekend the Stellenbosch University stadium will host the United Rugby Championship clash between the Stormers and Glasgow Warriors, which threatens to harm hopes of an improvement to the playing surface.
