Hernandez, Pereira set for thrilling showdown
Anthony Hernandez and Michel Pereira are set for a thrilling middleweight showdown in the main event of a UFC Fight Night, set for the APEX Facility in Las Vegas on Sunday morning.
Hernandez (12-2, 1 NC) has put together a five-fight win streak, most recently submitting Roman Kopylov in the second round of their match at UFC 298 back in February of this year.
The 30-year-old American, who hails from Dunnigan in California and is nicknamed ‘Fluffy’, has respect for his upcoming opponent but is confident of a triumph.
“He's really good, but the one thing I've noticed is all those guys aren't me. I think I bring a different skill set to the table, and I'm just ready to show that. I'm not a talker; I just do it, so I'm going to go show you guys what I do best on Saturday night,” said Hernandez.
He added, “I’m done f****** around. I can f*** around when I’m retired. Now it’s time for me to make my run and handle business.”
Pereira (31-11, 2 NC) has claimed eight successive wins, most recently submitting Ihor Potieria in the first round of their fight at UFC 301 back in May of this year.
The 30-year-old Brazilian, who hails from Maraba and is nicknamed ‘Demolidor’ (Daredevil), wants to remain active and build up both his reputation and financial situation.
“I have to fight, man. It’s time for me to make money,” said Pereira. “Let me fight. I’ll fight the best of the division when it’s time. Let me make my money now. When I was broke, you didn’t wire me any money, so let me fight and make my money and put on my show, do the s*** I always do.”
The rest of the main card features Rob Font v Kyler Phillips and Brady Hiestand v Jake Hadley in the bantamweight division; flyweight fights pitting Charles Johnson against Su Mudaerji, as well as Mattheus Nicolau against Asu Almabayev; and a featherweight meeting of Darren Elkins and Daniel Pineda.
