Borussia Dortmund will once again draw on their impressive home form in the Uefa Champions League as they look to overcome PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday and reach the quarterfinals for the first time in three seasons. Catch the action live on SuperSport.

The first leg in the Netherlands – the home side's first in the Champions League knockout rounds in eight seasons – ended 1-1, former PSV forward Donyell Malen's deflected shot giving the visitors a 24th-minute lead. That was cancelled out by a Luuk de Jong penalty 11 minutes into the second period after Malik Tillman had been felled by Mats Hummels.

While Dortmund are in the round of 16 for the ninth time overall and the fifth in six seasons, three of their most recent four last-16 ties ended in elimination and they have not reached the last eight since 2020/21. PSV are making their fifth appearance at this stage – and only their second in 17 seasons – and are bidding to reach the quarterfinals for the first time since 2006/07.

This season, Dortmund came top of a competitive Group F ahead of Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan and Newcastle United with PSV finishing second behind Arsenal in Group B.

With his penalty goal in the first leg, Luuk de Jong became PSV’s highest ever goalscorer in the Uefa Champions League with nine goals. Including the old European Cup, only Romário (11) and Willy van der Kuijlen (10) scored more for the Dutch side.

PSV’s Olivier Boscagli won possession 14 times in the first leg against Borussia Dortmund; the most by a defender in a Uefa Champions League game this season. Indeed, it was the joint-most by a PSV defender in a single game in the competition on record (since 2003-04) – also 14 by Héctor Moreno in December 2016 (v Rostov).
