US Men's National Team midfielder Tyler Adams will be sidelined for up to three months with a knee injury, potentially affecting his preparation for this summer's World Cup.

Adams, 26, sustained a torn MCL during the opening minutes of Bournemouth's Premier League match on Monday against Manchester United.

"Tyler has torn his MCL, so he will definitely be out for some time," Bournemouth coach Andoni Iraola said Friday. "From our previous experience with MCL injuries, it is normally around two or three months.

"It's a big blow because he is an important player for us. Straight away, when you see the mechanism of the injury and the action itself we felt it could be something serious."

Adams has two goals in 15 appearances this season for Bournemouth.

Adams, who captained the US team at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, was named the US Soccer Player of the Year in 2022. He has scored two goals in 52 appearances for the national team since 2017.

USMNT coach Mauricio Pochettino's squad has four friendlies remaining before opening the 2026 World Cup against Paraguay on June 12 in Inglewood, Calif.

Adams' injury timeline could keep him out until mid-March. The US is scheduled to play Belgium on March 28 and Portugal on March 31, with both matches in Atlanta, followed by Senegal on May 31 in Charlotte and Germany on June 6 in Chicago.
