Sekhukhune target sixth straight league win

Sekhukhune United midfielder Linda Mntambo has credited his side’s work ethic as Babina Noko look to record their sixth straight win in the DStv Premiership when they host Cape Town City at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday.

Sekhukhune quietly went about their business in the league since the turn of the year and now find themselves in third position on the table.

Babina Noko are among the best performing teams in the league at the moment and go into their next game on the back of a 2-1 victory against Orlando Pirates. Overall, Sekhukhune have now bagged five wins on the trot as Lehlohonolo Seema and company eye a CAF position at the end of the campaign.

While Sekhukhune have been firing on all cylinders, City are winless in their last five DStv Premiership outings. Prior to their 0-0 stalemate with Kaizer Chiefs, the Citizens suffered back-to-back defeats against Stellenbosch and Royal AM respectively. As a result of their dip in form, City now occupy 6th position on the log.

“I think since the resumption of the league we have been working extremely hard as a team,” Sekhukhune star Linda Mntambo said.

“Now I think it’s five games unbeaten, five wins in a row and we keep grinding, working hard and focusing on the next game.”

“I wanted a better reaction from the team like I said to you before, I wanted better energy, desire, passion and I think in the first half [against Kaizer Chiefs] I saw that,” City coach Eric Tinkler said.

“You know the mind shifts it was extremely important especially after the games we played where we didn’t get the desired results.”

Players to watch

Sekhukhune United: Vusimuzi Mncube – After getting his name on the scoresheet against Pirates, Mncube will be eager to continue his positive run of form against City. With the Citizens showcasing cracks in their defensive line against Chiefs, Mncube could hurt the Western Cape outfit, especially in transitional moments.

Cape Town City: Aprocius Petrus – Petrus was a star turner for his side against the Glamour Boys, as he dominated on the ball in the middle of the park. The midfielder will be a key component in setting the pace for his side on Tuesday, especially against a well-organised Babina Noko outfit.
