Royal AM look to add to CT Spurs woes
Royal AM is under pressure to perform and will be backing themselves when they lock horns with a wounded Cape Town Spurs in the next match day of the DStv Premiership on Tuesday evening at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
Kick-off is at 7:30 pm CAT (SA, GMT+2).
CURRENT FORM
John Maduka’s men are winless in their last three league fixtures, including a 4-0 thumping against Orlando Pirates. The team also lost recently to SuperSport United, who had their own issues of going on a winless streak in the league.
Royal AM are currently occupying 14th position in the standings and have 29 points, but have a game in hand over Moroka Swallows and Richards Bay who are 13th and 15th respectively.
As for Cape Town Spurs, Ernst Middendorp’s charges are close to being automatically relegated as they continue languishing in 16th place with 15 points. The team gave the football fraternity hope when they beat Richards Bay.
However, the joy was short-lived as they lost 1-0 to Polokwane City in the closing stages of the match. Prior to the win against Richards Bay, they had faced four defeats in a row.
WHAT WAS SAID
Thwili Twala coach John Maduka says that his team’s fate in the league is still in their own hands, so they will make the most of it.
"We have to win our games, and I'm happy the question is about top-eight and not relegation [because] we don't think like that – we think forward and positive,” he said.
Urban Warriors coach Ernst Middendorp has admitted that it will take a “miracle” to save his team from being relegated from the DStv Premiership.
"I'm busy all day with finding solutions for these games. We have several players not available," Middendorp explained.
“Now it's a different scenario. We have to see how to approach the remaining four games. Of course, miracles do happen, but I'm being realistic.”
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Menzi Masuku, Royal AM - The winger has scored three goals in 14 matches in the league and could possibly add to his tally in this crucial fixture for the KZN team, having scored in the previous fixture.
Liam Bern, Cape Town Spurs - The 21-year-old defensive midfielder has been a huge part of Spurs’ set-up. Featuring in 19 matches, a decent performance in the holding midfielder role could help the team keep their structure.
