Kaizer Chiefs DStv Diski Challenge coach Vela Khumalo was pleased with his team’s effort in the DStv Diski Challenge despite finishing fifth in the table.

In nine years of Diski Challenge Chiefs are yet to win the league. This season they were promising at some point but lost crucial matches to see their chances fading away.

Chiefs coach Vela Khumalo is hoping the club will do better and try to chase the title next season.

“I am happy that the hard work we did throughout the season has been acknowledged. We are looking forward to next season, which I believe will be a fruitful one,” coach Khumalo told the club website after Amakhosi’s Diski Challenge end-of-season awards ceremony.

Khumalo added that he was happy to have two players graduating from Diski Challenge to the first team in the recently ended season.

“Once again, I am very happy to have two of our players (Donay Jansen and Mfundo Vilakazi) moving up. That makes six players in three years, which indicates that we are doing something right in the development academy. We are highly motivated to produce even more next season,” added Khumalo.

At the event, promising 15-year-old Neo Bohloko was the big winner as he scooped two awards.

Bohloko was crowned Player-of-the-Year and scooped the club’s Top Goal Scorer award after finishing the season with 13 goals in his name.

He was four goals behind Thabang Mahlangu who finished the season as the league's top-goal scorer with 17 goals.

“It was expected. Having said that, he has set records at only 15 years of age, which is remarkable. I am delighted for him, and I think it is a good choice by the people who voted for him. One day we will see big things coming from him.”
