DAY 1: Slow and steady for Lions at lunch on day one against Western Province
The DP World Lions made a slow but steady start to their CSA 4-Day Series match against World Sports Betting Western Province, as they reached lunch on day one on 60/1 at DP World Wanderers in Johannesburg on Thursday.
The Lions won the toss and chose to bat first, but lost opener Joshua Richards for a nine ball duck in the second over of the day, after he edged debutant Jody Lawrence to Eddie Moore at third slip, with the score 3/1.
But that brought Muhammad Manack (30no) in to join captain Dominic Hendricks (23no) and they set about trying to build a good partnership over the rest of the session.
The played very carefully against some good bowling from Province, leaving the good balls and putting away the bad ones, as they took their side to the break in a decent position.
Some of the bowling from the visitors was incredibly tight, with Mihlali Mpongwana, who has bowled seven overs so far, yet to concede a run.
Hendricks and Manack will now resume in the early afternoon session, looking to build on their unbeaten 57-run stand, while Province will be eager to get a few wickets.
