Roux elevated to Lions forwards coach

The Lions have promoted former Springbok prop Wessel Roux to the role of forwards coach within the union following the departure of Barend Pieterse to the Junior Springboks.
Roux, who joined the Lions in 2016 as coach and has taken charge of several of the Lions’ junior teams, will get his chance as part of Ivan van Rooyen’s management team and will be there with immediate effect starting ahead of Saturday’s Vodacom United Rugby Championship match against the Sharks on Saturday.

Roux also served as the Currie Cup forwards coach from 2022-2025, having reached the finals of the competition in the past two seasons alongside coach Mziwakhe Nkosi.
Pieterse will replace Johan Ackermann, who helped SA under-20 coach Kevin Foote lead the side to the Junior World Championship earlier this year.
