Orlando Pirates made it six wins out of six Betway Premiership matches when they claimed a 2-0 win over TS Galaxy at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Tuesday night.

The Buccaneers matched their best start to a season in the PSL stretching back to 1996 and they also extended their lead to six points atop the league standings.

Coach Jose Riveiro's side will look to set a new club record when they host Richards Bay on 5 November.

The Rockets, on the other hand, remain winless in the league in the current campaign and the defeat leaves them rooted at the bottom of the standings.

The Mpumalanga side will be looking to bounce back to winning ways when they face Magesi FC in the Carling Knockout quarterfinal on 3 November.

The Buccaneers got off to a promising start and they broke the deadlock in the 16th minute.

Thalente Mbatha was afforded space and time to unleash a hard, low shot which beat goalkeeper Eliezer Ira Tape to hand Pirates a 1-0 lead.

The Rockets pushed for the equalising goal and the hosts felt that they should have been awarded a penalty just before halftime.

Nkosikhona Radebe went down in the box after making contact with Deon Hotto, but the referee waved play on and Pirates were 1-0 up at halftime.

The Bucs did not sit back and defend their narrow lead after the restart as they continued to launch attacks.

Relebohile Mofokeng won back possession on the edge of the Galaxy box and scored with a thumping long-range shot to make it 2-0 to Pirates in the 72nd minute.

Coach Sead Ramovic reacted by introducing the attack-minded duo of Nhlanhla Mgaga and Thamsanqa Masiya with 10 minutes left on the clock.

However, Galaxy were reduced to 10 players after Kamogelo Sebelebele was sent off and Pirates held on to win 2-0.
