Kaizer Chiefs have announced that teenage midfielder Wiseman Meyiwa has been left in a wheelchair by the injuries sustained in a car accident in November and ad been forced to retire from football

The 19-year-old was lucky to escape the accident with his life, but has been left with limited mobility, for which he is receiving therapy, which has brought to an end his once promising career.

"Disability is something that is beyond anyone's control. We urge respect and medical, mental, psychological and emotional support for the player in this difficult time," Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung told reporters on Thursday. "It's not a pretty situation, but a realistic situation.”

Motaung said the club would support the family in any way they could and urged fans to do the same.

“The family as a whole also needs support from everyone in the fraternity. Today we had a good celebration day with him. His life is still going on, it's just a career-ending moment for him."

Meyiwa scored on his debut for Chiefs against Cape Town City as a 17-year-old in September 2017, by which time he had already played for South Africa in the African Nations Championship qualifiers. He earned three caps in all, the last in the 2018 COSAFA Cup.

Meyiwa made 15 starts and six substitutes appearances for Chiefs, scoring just the single goal.
