Maritzburg United will be seeking their first ever win over Polokwane City in Limpopo when the teams clash in the Absa Premiership at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.

United have made six visits to Polokwane down the years and are winless, with three draws and three defeats.

They did beat the previous incarnation of the Polokwane club, Bay United, when the latter were based in Port Elizabeth, with that victory coming a decade ago in 2009.

But since Polokwane moved to Limpopo it has been a tale of woe for the KwaZulu-Natal side, including in this fixture last season when they lost 1-0 as Diala Manaka scored the only goal.

“Preparations have been good,” Maritzburg’s New Zealand-born left-back Dan Morgan told his club’s website.

“We’ve had a lot of games lately in a short space of time, so it’s been good to have those few extra days for the legs to recover and to get ready for the tough away game at Polokwane, we’re looking forward to it.

“We need to get back on track and to winning ways as soon as possible. Obviously we’re not losing a lot of games, but we would like to win a lot more.

“Also as well for the boys to just play positive football, play well, keep the team camaraderie going and get a positive result and hopefully that results in us getting three points.

“We haven’t been playing badly and if we take our chances, then I think we’ll be good to get the three points.”

Maritzburg have only scored four goals at Polokwane and never more than one in a single game.
