The presence of new coach Clinton Larsen did little to boost the fortunes of Polokwane City as they extended their club record losing streak to nine matches on Sunday.

City were beaten 1-0 by Maritzburg United to slip further into relegation peril, and will now hope that Larsen can turn things around for them, just as he did for Chippa United last season.

He was axed by the Chilli Boyz after a slow start to the current campaign and after taking a break has popped up again in Limpopo.

"I joined them on Thursday," Larsen told reporters. "I had time away to spend some time with my family. As coaches, we don't have enough time to be with our families. I am refreshed and ready to go again since leaving Chippa two months ago."

Larsen has had successful spells with Bloemfontein Celtic, who he took to the 2012 Telkom Knockout title, and Lamontville Golden Arrows, and was also praised for keeping Chippa up last season.

His next game in charge is a tough one away at Mamelodi Sundowns on December 21, before a clash at home to former side Chippa on January 4 at the start of a busy period in the New Year.
