Polokwane City and Golden Arrows drew 1-1 in an Absa Premiership match at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, on Sunday afternoon.

The draw left Rise and Shine and Abafana Bes'thende placed eighth and 15th respectively on the league standings.

Abafana Bes'thende attacked Rise and Shine from the first whistle and they managed to break the deadlock.

Knox Mutizwa was the man who hit the back of the net with a great header to make it 1-0 to Arrows in the eighth minute.

Charlton Mashumba, who is Polokwane's top goalscorer with five league goals, was working hard in attack for the hosts.

However, the Abafana Bes'thende defence, which was marshalled by their captain Trevor Mathiane, stood firm.

The Arrows defence continued to frustrate Clinton Larsen's men in the opening stages of the second half.

Former Bloemfontein Celtic coach Larsen reacted by introducing Mohammed Anas as Rise and Shine looked to restore parity.

The Ghanaian striker made an immediate impact as he scored to make it 1-1 in the 70th minute after Abafana Bes'thende failed to clear their lines.

Rise and Shine then pushed for their second goal in the afternoon in the closing stages of the encounter.

However, the visitors stayed compact and solid in the dying minutes of the match and, in the end, Polokwane and Arrows drew 1-1 on the day.
