The Premier Soccer League (PSL) is blessed with astute coaches, who are among the best on the African continent.

We take a look at the most successful tacticians, who are currently coaching in the PSL and what they have achieved in South Africa.

Kaitano Tembo

Club: SuperSport United

Trophies: 1

The Zimbabwean mentor is in his second season as SuperSport United head coach and he already been to two major cup finals.

Tembo guided Matsatsantsa to the 2018 MTN8 final where they lost to Cape Town City, but they won the competition in the following year - making it the retired defender's maiden trophy as a coach.

Clinton Larsen

Club: Polokwane City

Trophies: 1

The local tactician has been coaching in the PSL for a decade now having taken charge of Bloemfontein Celtic, Maritzburg United, Lamontville Golden Arrows, Chippa United and Polokwane City.

The current Polokwane coach led Celtic to the 2012 Telkom Knockout Cup when they stunned a much-fancied Mamelodi Sundowns side in the final and it remains his only major trophy.

Eric Tinkler

Club: Maritzburg United

Trophies: 2

The retired Bafana Bafana midfielder has quickly established himself as a successful coach in the PSL having begun his career as a head coach at Orlando Pirates in 2015.

Pirates finished as runners-up in the 2015 Caf Confederation Cup and 2016 Nedbank Cup under Tinkler's guidance, before he won the 2016 Telkom Knockout Cup with Cape Town City and the 2017 MTN8 with SuperSport United.

Tinkler, who guided his current side Maritzburg United to a second-place finish in the 2019 Telkom Knockout, says he is a winner.

"I'm a winner, I want to win things and achieve things. That needs to rub off on the players," Tinkler said.

"My expectations are very high, that's why when we are one-nil up at halftime I am screaming and shouting because I expect more."

Gavin Hunt

Club: Bidvest Wits

Trophies: 8

The accomplished local tactician is one of the most decorated coaches in the history of the PSL as he has won eight major trophies having coached Seven Stars, Hellenic, Black Leopards, Moroka Swallows, SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits.

Hunt, who has won joint-record four PSL titles, clinched his first trophy (Absa Cup now known as Nedbank Cup) with Moroka Swallows in 2004, before moving to SuperSport where he won the competition again and added the MTN8 and Telkom Knockout to his collection at his current side Wits.

Pitso Mosimane

Club: Mamelodi Sundowns

Trophies: 11

The decorated trainer is the most successful coach in the PSL having won 11 major trophies since he started his coaching career at SuperSport in 2001.

Mosimane guided SuperSport to the 2004 SAA Supa 8 (now known as MTN8) and 2005 Absa Cup (Nedbank Cup) and he later joined their Tshwane rivals Mamelodi Sundowns where he has won a record four PSL titles, two Telkom Knockout trophies, Nedbank Cup, Caf Champions League and Caf Super Cup.

Mosimane has been lauded as the best coach in the history of the league by PSL chairman Irvin Khoza.

"Pitso has earned what he has achieved today. He has gone through all the steps of coaching development," Khoza said.

"Pitso started at the bottom. He started as a coach of the Soweto district under-17 squad. It is a fact, Pitso Mosimane is the most successful coach in the history of the PSL.
