Mamelodi Sundowns say they refuse to respond to speculation on the future of coach Pitso Mosimane, whose contract with the Absa Premiership holders is up at the end of the season.

Mosimane’s renewal has been the subject of media hype for the best part of the last nine months, with the coach himself admitting at times that there were issues that needed to be sorted out.

And he fanned the flames at the weekend when he revealed he would be making an announcement on Monday, though this turned out to be around engagement on his Instagram account.

Sundowns have refused to comment all along as a club and say they will only do so when they deem the time is right.

“Mamelodi Sundowns has observed over several months the speculation and the false statements concerning several issues including the contract of Pitso Mosimane,” the club said in a statement.

“It is the policy of Mamelodi Sundowns not to respond or to comment on speculations or false statements.

“In line with the policy and culture of Mamelodi Sundowns announcements on any matter which is important to the club, including Pitso Mosimane’s contract, will be made when the club deems it appropriate.”

Mosimane has led The Brazilians to four league titles following his arrival at the club in 2012, as well as the 2016 Caf Champions League and 2017 Caf Super Cup.

He has also enjoyed domestic knockout success, helping the team to the 2015 Nedbank Cup, 2016 MTN8 and the Telkom Knockout trophies in 2015 and 2019.
