Chippa United have confirmed the surprise departure of winger Thabo Rakhale after the expiry of his contract on June 30.

The former Orlando Pirates star has been in fine form this campaign, arguably some of the best of his career, but did not reach an agreement on an extension to the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

“Thabo Rakhale's contract has expired. We can confirm the club and Thabo have amicably decided to part ways,” Chippa said in a statement.

“The club would like to thank Thabo “Jomo” Rakhale for his service at the club for the past three years, he will surely be remembered. Wish him well on his future endeavors.”

It will be a blow to Chippa’s survival hopes, with the club sitting perilously three points above the relegation play-off position and having also failed to extend the contract of coach Rhulani Mokwena.

Rakhale burst onto the scene in the Absa Premiership with Polokwane City in the 2013/14 season and moved to Pirates the following campaign.

He was in and out of the Buccaneers line-up, which prompted a switch to Chippa in January 2018.

The 30-year-old made 68 appearances in all competitions for The Chilli Boyz, netting five goals.
