SuperSport United coach Kaitano Tembo is delighted with the BidVest Stadium as his team’s nominated ‘home’ venue for the remainder of the Absa Premiership, a ground where the side have traditionally excelled.

The 16 Premiership teams in the Gauteng bio-bubble were each drawn a new home venue to complete the season, and Tembo feels his side have come up trumps with the one they have been allocated.

“We're happy about it because it's a compact stadium and has a very good playing surface that suits our style of play. We have always played well there,” Tembo told his club’s website.

In fact, SuperSport have not lost at the BidVest Stadium since 2015, with their last five visits resulting in four wins and a draw, an astonishing run considering opponents Wits have been title contenders for most of those years.

Their last three visits have all resulted in victories, when they have scored five goals and conceded none, while they have already won there twice this campaign in the MTN8 (3-0) and league (1-0).

SuperSport will play three of their remaining six games at the venue, versus Bloemfontein Celtic (16 August), Polokwane City (19 August) and Baroka FC (2 September).

Meanwhile, Tembo is also happy with the way things have gone on the training pitch for the third-placed side, who are mathematically still in the Absa Premiership title race.

“The team has been doing well and coping with the load in terms of training and it’s good that we haven't had serious muscle injuries,” he said.

“The players are also looking good at training but we will have a clear understanding of where they are in terms of match fitness after our first game because we haven't had an opportunity to play friendly matches during our preparations due to strict health regulations which we have to adhere to.”
