AmaZulu FC were held to a 0-0 draw by Baroka FC in an Absa Premiership match at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The result saw Usuthu climb out of the relegation zone into the 14th spot, but Bakgaga Ba Mphahlele remained 13th on the log.

Usuthu got off to a promising start with Sphesihle Maduna and Siyethembe Sithebe looking lively for the home side.

Maduna played a well-taken free-kick into the Baroka box in the 10th minute, but Tsepo Masilela failed to direct the ball towards goal from close range.

Bakgaga Ba Mphahlele took control of the match towards the half-hour mark and they started creating goalscoring opportunities.

Thuso Mogale had a chance to break the deadlock just after the half-hour mark after being sent through on goal by Gerald Phiri Junior.

However, Mogale was brilliantly denied by AmaZulu goalkeeper Neil Boshoff and the home side survived a scare.

The score was 0-0 during the halftime break following an evenly matched first-half in the nation's capital, Pretoria.

A lively second-half followed with AmaZulu pushing for the opening goal and Elvis Chipezeze became a busy man in the Baroka goal-posts.

The Zimbabwean goalkeeper made a fine save to deny Maduna, who then hit the side-netting as the home side applied some pressure on the visitors.

Kagiso Selemela, who was once on the books of Black Leopards, was introduced by Baroka as they looked to snatch a late winning goal.

The two teams which are looking to avoid relegation from Premier Soccer League (PSL) attacked each other in the closing stages of the encounter.

However, they could not create any goalscoring chances in the dying minutes of the game and ultimately, the match ended in a 0-0 draw.
