Senegal will be eyeing successive wins over Guinea-Bissau when the two countries meet in a 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier at Estádio 24 de Setembro in Bissau on Sunday afternoon.

Kick-off is at 3pm CAT (SA, GMT+2).

The Lions of Teranga recorded a third straight win in Group I by defeating the same opponents 2-0 at Stade Lat-Dior in Thies on Wednesday.

Goals from Sadio Mane and Opa Nguette maintained Senegal's three-point lead atop the standings at the halfway point of qualification for the 2022 showpiece set to be hosted in Cameroon.

Senegal head coach Aliou Cisse was happy with how his team played in difficult conditions and underlined the importance of the victory ahead of their trip to Bissau.

“I'd like to congratulate them [my players]. They played a serious game despite the bad conditions and the heat," said Cisse. "It was complicated, but I commend the effort they put in. They were determined to earn the three points.”

"It's important to have taken these three points, that makes it nine out of the three games for us. People have to stop thinking that there are easy matches. For Senegal, there won't be any," he said.

Guinea-Bissau head coach Baciro Cande questioned the penalty decision which led to Mane's opener in Thies and stated that his team aren't in any way inferior to the 2019 Afcon runners-up, with Chelsea's Edouard Mendy having enjoyed a particularly impressive game between the Senegalese posts.

“We conceded the first goal when it was not necessary,” Cande said. “There were a few minutes left before the end of the first half, unfortunately Senegal benefited from a non-existent penalty, for me there is no fault.

“We tried to get back to the score in the second half, we had two or three great chances but we missed them because there was a good goalkeeper in front of us. We were not inferior to Senegal.

“There is a match in Guinea-Bissau, we will see what will happen there. We will come with all our assets to beat Senegal on Sunday.”

Guinea-Bissau head into matchday four on three points with their only win coming at home to eSwatini in the opening round of fixtures.
