Worst decision in the history of SA football?
That's how SuperSport commentator Kevin Evans described a decision by the linesman in the DStv Premiership match between Royal AM and local rivals AmaZulu FC on Sunday.
Royal AM were leading 1-0. Then Sera Motebang blasted a curling cracker in the 69th minute. The quality of the strike was so that the linesman at the other end of the field thought it was a goal.
Flag raised - indicating goal and referee Christopher Kistoor pointed to the centre-line much to the annoyance of the AmaZulu players. As for Usuthu coach Romain Folz, he was so flabbergasted that he headed straight to the tunnel.
But sanity prevailed when the referee walked across to consult his assistant, who appeared to admit to his error and the "goal" was chalked off. Sanity prevailed but Royal AM got their second goal - this time a legitimate one through Mxolisi Macuphu.
Calls for VAR (video assistant referee) will likely get amplified after this.
