Chippa United coach and technical adviser for Coastal United, Kurt Lentjies, was left impressed with 16-year-old Luphumlo Sifumba, who became a hero over the weekend during the DStv Compact Cup.

Sifumba, a Cape Town City Reserves player, is one of the Diski Challenge youngsters who were drafted to be part of the new Compact Cup.

He represented Coastal United on Saturday. The Grade 10 learner was introduced in the second half on Saturday when his team, Coastal United, were 2-0 up, and he scored the third goal of the match in their 3-0 win.

“Sixteen years old, first touch and he scores a goal. But not just the goal, everything he did after that as well,” Lentjies said.

“So I am happy for him, but not just me. Everybody in the technical team was happy for him.

“He wouldn’t be here if we and the supporters who voted for him didn’t think he was capable.”

“He showed it in training, and it was a given he would come on. We decided that the boy deserved to play the way he was training.

“With coach Eric [Tinkler] knowing him from Cape Town City and coach Steve [Barker] having a look at him for the first time in training ... wow, what a player for the future. And not even the future, why not now?

The Philippi-born midfielder will be part of the Coastal United team when they face the Warriors in the final at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

In an interview Sifumba had with SuperSport.com last year May, the young prospect did not hide that he wants to be one of the best players to come out of South Africa.

Furthermore, looking at his progress since then, there is no doubt that there is still a lot to come from the youngster who is yet to make his DStv Premiership.
