Mamelodi Sundowns have extended their lead at the top of the DStv Premiership to six points with a game in hand over the last week, despite the fact they have been held to draws in their last two games.

The question now is how many points can they accumulate this campaign, and are their own PSL records for most wins and most points under threat?

The Brazilians look to be cantering to the 2021-22 league title, in part through their own excellence, but also the inability of the chasing pack to mount a serious challenge that will put them under pressure.

The team that has looked the most likely in recent times is surprise package Sekhukhune United, who travel to the Tuks Stadium to face Sundowns on Saturday on a run of five wins in their last six league games (L1).

Sundowns have managed to garner 27 points from 11 league games at a very healthy average of 2.46 per match. If that rate of picking up points extends through the season, they will amass 74 by the end of the campaign.

Should they do that they will beat their own record of 71 in the 2015/16 season, when they won the league by a whopping 14 points ahead of Bidvest Wits.

They also set the record for most wins (22) in that campaign, which they would match at their current rate this season.

They could also be on course to beat the record for the fewest goals conceded in a season, which currently stands at 11 by Kaizer Chiefs in the 2004/05 campaign.

Sundowns have let in just two all campaign, though both came in their 2-2 draw with SuperSport United in midweek following a couple of howlers from goalkeeper Denis Onyango.
