Demu powers Sidama Coffee to win over Fasil City

Sidama Coffee continued their upwards trajectory in the BetKing Ethiopia Premier League with a 1-0 win over Fasil City on Monday.

It was their fifth win in row and all but takes them clear of relegation worries having languished in the danger zone for most of the season.

Sidama have been without their legendary striker, Saladhin Seid, for the greater part of the second round through injury.

Their star striker and last season's top scorer, Yigezu Bogale, has been firing blanks and they had found a new goal outlet in Philip Adjah who scored the winning goals in their last three games.

However, on Monday, they found a new hero in Desta Demu, who scored in the third minute of the encounter to ensure all three points on offer.

The win for Sidama takes them from 11th place to ninth on 33 points, the same number of points as Hawassa City in eighth and Adama City in seventh with both only above them on goal difference.

The defeat for Fasil City was a missed opportunity for the Emperors, who would have narrowed the gap to third-placed Ethiopian Insurance to four points had they won.

Fasil remain in fourth place on 37 points with Insurance in third position with 44 points.

Hadiya Hossana, who beat second-place Bahir Dar City, are fifth on the log with 36 points, just one point behind Fasil City.
