The arbitration hearing in the matter between Bloemfontein Celtic and Mamelodi Sundowns will take place on Friday.

Celtic have lodged a complaint after Sundowns included left-back Tebogo Langerman in their squad for the Nedbank Cup final despite the fact the player was suspended.

The administrative oversight was not picked up by either side before the game, but only once Sundowns sought to introduce the experienced defender in the second half.

Once they realised their error, the substitution was stopped and Langerman did not enter the field of play.

Despite this, Celtic lodged a complaint after the game, which they lost 1-0 as Sundowns were crowned champions.

Premier Soccer League rules could see Sundowns handed a punishment of anything from a fine to a forfeit of the fixture, which would see Celtic named Nedbank Cup winners, despite losing the decider.

Sundowns will argue that Langerman’s appearance on the teamsheet made no material difference to the result as he never made it onto the pitch to kick a ball.

However, PSL regulations say that if a player appears on the teamsheet he is deemed to have been involved in the game.

Aside from the trophy win, there is also R7-million in prize-money that is awarded to the winners, which would be a massive boost for cash-strapped Celtic.
