Cape Town City players need no motivation for their task in the Telkom Knockout against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday, says coach Benni McCarthy.

“I have sensed the anticipation and the desire in training all week. It picked up throughout, the players have been noisy. Everyone wants to be involved.”

City host the first round tie against Chiefs at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday (kick off 3pm live on SuperSport.

“When the players are like that, it’s a good headache for the coach to have as the players are putting themselves out there. Choosing the right XI is always then a tough challenge.”

McCarthy said he would have preferred an easier draw.

“I’ve haven’t had much luck since I joined City in the cup draws. I never get any easy games,” he said.

“Chiefs are the team most in form at the moment but I’m confident we can do something. I think everyone is relishing the challenge.”

City will give time to both skipper Thamsanqa Mkhize and midfielder Roland Putsche to get over knocks ahead of the game. “We’ll make a late decision on their inclusion,” added McCarthy.
