Premier League matchweek 10: Game-by-game previews

All you need to know ahead of Premier League matchweek 10.

BRENTFORD V BRIGHTON

14 OCTOBER

Brentford have won just one of their last six home league games against Brighton (D3 L2), beating them 3-2 in September 2014.

Brighton won both Premier League meetings with Brentford last season – only against West Ham have they ever won three in a row in the competition (between October 2017 and October 2018).

Brentford are unbeaten in their last nine league games played on a Friday, winning seven and drawing twice. The Bees have won each of their last five such games, including both in the Premier League last season (vs Arsenal and Watford).

LEICESTER CITY V CRYSTAL PALACE

15 OCTOBER

Leicester have won each of their last three Premier League home games against Crystal Palace, more than they had in their first seven against them in the competition beforehand (W2 D1 L4). The Foxes have also scored more goals in these three games (7) than in their first such seven at home against the Eagles (6).

Having done the league double over Leicester in both 2017-18 and 2018-19, Crystal Palace are since winless in their last six against the Foxes (D2 L4).

Crystal Palace are unbeaten in their last 12 Premier League games against sides starting the day in the relegation zone (W7 D5) since a 1-0 loss at Burnley in November 2020.

FULHAM V BOURNEMOUTH

Fulham have won just one of their last 10 league games against Bournemouth (D4 L5), winning 1-0 away from home in April 2019. Both meetings between the sides in the Championship last season ended level.

Bournemouth are unbeaten in their last seven away league games against Fulham (W4 D3) since a 2-0 loss in April 1992.

Bournemouth have lost seven of their last eight Premier League games in London, conceding at least three goals in five of those seven defeats. The exception was a 1-0 win at Chelsea in December 2019.

WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS V NOTTINGHAM FOREST

Wolves have lost just one of their last seven league games against Nottingham Forest (W4 D2), though it was in their last such meeting with them in January 2018 (0-2 at Molineux).

Nottingham Forest have won three of their last five away league games against Wolves (D1 L1), more than they had in their previous 20 visits to Molineux (W2 D3 L15).

Wolves have lost just one of their last 11 Premier League games against promoted sides (W5 D5), with their matches against Fulham and Bournemouth this season both finishing goalless. Their only defeat in this run was at home to Brentford in September last season.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR V EVERTON

Tottenham have lost just one of their last 19 Premier League meetings with Everton (W9 D9), going down 1-0 at home in September 2020.

After winning three consecutive away league games against Spurs between 2006 and 2008, Everton have won just one of their subsequent 13 visits to Spurs (D4 L8).

Tottenham have won their last seven Premier League home games, their longest run since a streak of 14 between November 2016 and May 2017.

ASTON VILLA V CHELSEA

16 OCTOBER

Aston Villa have won just one of their last 10 Premier League games against Chelsea (D1 L8), beating them 2-1 on the final day of the 2020-21 season.

Chelsea have won six of their last eight Premier League away games against Aston Villa (L2), as many as they had in their first 19 visits to Villa Park in the competition (D7 L6).

Following their 1-0 win against Southampton last time out at Villa Park, Aston Villa are looking to win consecutive Premier League home games for the first time since May/August 2021 (which included a 2-1 win against Chelsea), while they last did so in the same season back in January 2021.

LEEDS UNITED V ARSENAL

Leeds are winless in their last five Premier League home games against Arsenal (D2 L3) since a 1-0 win in November 2000. All three of their defeats in this run have been by a 4-1 scoreline.

Arsenal have won five of their last six league games against Leeds (D1), including each of the last three in a row. Only once have they beaten the Whites in four consecutive league games, doing so between November 1936 and April 1938.

Leeds are winless in five Premier League games, alternating between defeat and a draw each time (D2 L3). They lost against Crystal Palace last time out, last losing consecutively league games in May (a run of three, the second of which was against Arsenal).

MANCHESTER UNITED V NEWCASTLE UNITED

Manchester United have lost just one of their last 37 home league games against Newcastle (W27 D9), a 1-0 loss in December 2013 under David Moyes.

Newcastle have conceded more Premier League goals against Manchester United than they have against any other opponent (113), while only against Arsenal (33) have they lost more often in the competition than against the Red Devils (32).

Manchester United have won their last five home league games against Newcastle, scoring at least three goals each time. Only once have they had a longer run of consecutive home wins against an opponent while netting 3+ goals, doing so in six in a row against Luton between 1899 and 1957.

SOUTHAMPTON V WEST HAM UNITED

Southampton are looking to win back-to-back league games against West Ham for the first time since September 2016, following their 3-2 win at the London Stadium in December last year.

West Ham are unbeaten in their last four Premier League away games against Southampton, winning two and drawing two. They’ve kept a clean sheet in each of their last three visits, though the last two have both ended 0-0.

Southampton have won just two of their last 15 Premier League games (D2 L11), losing each of the last four in a row. Their two wins in his run have seen them concede the first goal of the match (vs Leicester and Chelsea in August).

LIVERPOOL V MANCHESTER CITY

Liverpool are winless in their last five Premier League games against Manchester City (D3 L2) – they’ve never gone six without a win against the Citizens in their league history.

Manchester City have picked up four points from their last two Premier League away games against Liverpool, just one fewer than they’d earned in their previous 17 visits to Anfield (D5 L12). They’re looking to remain unbeaten in three consecutive away league games against the Reds for the first time since December 1992.

Liverpool have scored at least twice in each of their last four meetings with Manchester City in all competitions (W2 D2) – no team has ever scored at least twice in five consecutive games against a side managed by Pep Guardiola before.
