Rwanda came from behind to hold Kenya to a 1-1 draw in a CAF second-round 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifying match at Stade Régional Nyamirambo in Kigali on Sunday.

The result leaves both teams winless after two rounds of fixtures and with a mountain to climb if they are to challenge for a place in the third round of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup hosted in Qatar.

The Harambee Stars opened the scoring nine minutes into the encounter through Michael Olunga. The Qatari-based forward had the beating of Emery Mvuyekure who failed to hold onto the Kenyan forward's shot.

Amavubi took little time to respond and levelled matters through Abdul Rwatubyaye in the 20th minute of the match.

Despite a positive end to an exciting first half which promised more goals in the second, none followed as the game ultimately ended in a draw.

A point moves Kenya within one of Group E leaders Mali who are away to Uganda on Monday.

Kenya will face Mali in home and away fixtures in the next international window while Rwanda continue their qualifying quest with back-to-back matches against Uganda in October.
