Zesco United’s failure to win in midweek has seen the current champions slump further in the Zambian Super League title race and should add confidence to those other clubs chasing glory in the 2019/20 season.

Zesco were held 0-0 by Lumwana Radiants and now astonishingly have just three wins in their last 20 games in all competitions, but are somehow clinging on in the Super League title race.

That is because of their magnificent start to the campaign where they won their opening nine matches, but those days now seem a distant memory as they battle for victories.

They will have the chance to get back on track on Sunday when they host Green Buffaloes, and can go into the game with some confidence having won their last three meetings with the army side.

Also on Sunday, Buildcon will seek to arrest their alarming slide that has seen them sink to 15th, having taken just one point from the last 18 available. They will host relegation-threatened Nakambala Leopards at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Super League leaders Forest Rangers are not in action as their opponents Zanaco are involved in CAF Confederation Cup action, which gives second-placed Green Eagles the chance to move to the summit when they host third-placed NAPSA Stars on Saturday.

It is a fixture that could have a crucial bearing on the title race, though it is one that more often than not ends in a draw. Ten of the previous 15 games have ended all square, with Stars leading the head-to-head 3-2.

Nkana can also make up ground on the leaders when they host Kabwe Warriors in a battle between fifth and sixth in the table.

Red Arrows can also reignite their flagging title hopes as they welcome bottom side Mufulira Wanderers, though they already have five defeats in 11 home games this campaign.

Lusaka Dynamos have suddenly shot into the title frame as well, albeit as outsiders, and they will play host to Kansanshi Dynamos.

Otheer matches on Saturday see strugglers Kabwe YSA welcome Lumwana Radiants and Nkwazi host Power Dynamos.

Forest Rangers head the table with 46 points from 24 games, followed by Green Eagles (44 from 23), NAPSA Stars (42 from 24), Zesco United (41 from 23) and Nkana (40 from 23).
