Kelvin Kampamba scored the winner 10 minutes from time as Zesco United took another big step towards the Zambia Super League title with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Red Arrows on Wednesday.

The win moves Zesco eight points clear at the top of the table with three games in hand on second-placed Forest Rangers, suggesting it would take something extraordinary in the closing weeks of the campaign for them to let the title slip.

The day did not start well for Zesco though as they fell behind to a goal from Arrows’ Malien forward Alassane Diarra, but an Adrian Chama penalty just before halftime brought the home side level.

It looked as through the game would head for a draw, but Kampamba popped up to score what proved to be the winner and seal an eighth win in a row for unstoppable Zesco.

Emmanuel Chabula grabbed two goals as Lusaka Dynamos moved into fourth place with a 3-0 victory over visitors Prison Leopards.

Goals in each half from Chabula set Dynamos on their way, before Marvin Jere added a third late on to give the scoreline a more emphatic look.

Indeni moved five points clear of the relegation zone when they defeated Nkwazi 3-2 to continue their excellent run of form in recent weeks.

Cephas Handavu scored his second goal in as many games early on to give them the lead, before Graven Chitalu made it 2-0 at the break.

Langson Kapumbu gave the visitors hope when he pulled one back on 55 minutes, but that joy was short-lived as Handavu grabbed a second to seal the victory for the home side. Langson Mbewe got a late consolation for Nkwazi.

Young Green Eagles moved out of the drop-zone with a 1-0 win over bottom side kitwe United, boosting their hopes of survival this campaign.

Samson Chilupe got the only goal of the game after 28 minutes for what could be a precious victory in Young Green Eagles’ season.
