There are eight Zambia Super League matches in midweek as the games come thick and fast in what is an intriguing 2020-21 campaign in which Zesco United remain the odds-on favourites to take the title.

Zesco play on Thursday at home to Green Eagles, looking to extend their massive 10-point lead at the top of the table having embarked on a nine-game winning run that has seen them race ahead.

Eagles have been in mixed form of late, but did beat ailing champions Nkana FC 3-0 last weekend, though that was just their second success in nine games (D4 L3). Eagles have also certainly battled on the road with a single win in 14 trips away (D6 L7).

The previous three meetings between the sides have all ended 0-0, though Eagles have only three wins in 19 against Zesco.

Second-placed Zanaco travel to relegation threatened Lumwana Radiants in a crucial clash for both teams with opposing ambitions.

Zanaco might concede the league title is a long shot but they will certainly hope to hang on to second place and earn a spot in the Caf Champions League next season. Radiants have slipped four points from safety and need a win.

Zanaco won the reverse fixture 4-0 earlier in the campaign and have lost just once in nine to their opponents.

Forest Rangers are three points clear in third as they welcome Green Buffaloes, who have won their last three games, the first time they have done that since 2019. They have not won four in a row since 2015.

Power Dynamos’ run of draws has seen them slip off the pace with four in their last five games (L1). They are away at Kabwe Warriors with both teams on 38 points, though the latter have a game in hand.

There are also crucial games at the foot of the table where Nkana are inexplicably 11 points from safety, albeit with four games in hand. They may not be in action, but will be eagerly watching those around them.

That includes Napsa Stars, who are five points off safety with five games in the bank and will hope to begin their turnaround at home to bottom side Kitwe United, who have just a single win in 25 games (D9 L15) all season.

Other matches will see Buildcon host Prison Leopards, who this week elevated Albert Kachinga from assistant to head coach, and Young Green Eagles take on Red Arrows. Finally, Lusaka Dynamos clash with Indeni.
