Nkana suffers survival blow as Zanaco's title hopes fade
Nkana FC were dealt a double blow in their bid to avoid relegation after they lost 2-1 at home to Lusaka Dynamos in the Zambia Super League on Sunday.
That result leaves the Kitwe club nine points from safety after fellow strugglers Prison Leopards claimed a 1-0 home win over Lumwana Radiants. Nkana do have three games in hand, but were hoping for a hat-trick of wins.
Namibia international Willy Stephanus scored a brace of goals for Dynamos either side of a Ronald Kampamba strike for Nkana.
Leopards claimed their victory thanks to a second-half goal from Junior Zulu that moves them two points clear of the drop-zone.
NAPSA Stars remain in the bottom four despite a thrilling 4-3 victory at Indeni. Jimmy Mukeya and Bornwell Mwape put Stars 2-0 up, before Cephas Handavu reduced the deficit for Indeni.
Mwape's second made it 3-1 to Stars, but goals from Tiki Chiluba and Graven Chitalu drew the home side level at 3-3.
Mukeya then netted his second of the match, which proved the winner with 16 minutes remaining.
At the other end of the table, second-placed Zanaco were held to a 1-1 draw by Green Buffaloes, a blow to their slim title hopes. They now trail leaders Zesco United by five points, but have played a game more.
Nicholas Mulilo put Buffaloes in front, before Moses Phiri equalised on 50 minutes. Neither side could find a winner from there.
Finally, Green Eagles and Buildcon played to a 1-1 draw that did neither side any favours.
Anos Tembo put Eagles in front, but Emmanuel Okutu drew Buildcon level early in the second period.
