After bagging victories in their latest Betway Premiership assignments, Golden Arrows and Cape Town City are hoping to gain winning momentum when they do battle at the Mpumalanga Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Kick-off is at 3:30pm (CAT, GMT+2)

CURRENT FORM

Arrows ended an underwhelming four-match winless streak in the Betway Premiership on Tuesday evening when they oversaw a tense 3-2 win against Royal AM at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

Inspired by a Ryan Moon brace, Arrows subsequently moved up to eighth on the log in what was just their third win of the 2024/25 league season so far.

The Citizens head into their next league game on the back of a hard-fought 1-0 win against Polokwane City at the Athlone Stadium on Wednesday night.

However, it has not been easy sailing for the Cape side recently after recording just two wins in their last handful of Betway Premiership fixtures.

City also jotted down two defeats & one draw during this period and currently occupy 10th position in the table.

WHAT WAS SAID

Abafana Bes’thende coach Mabhuti Khenyeza refused to get carried away following his team’s victory over Royal AM and believes that the right preparation is needed when facing City on Sunday.

“The game against Royal drained us, we can't get over-excited with everything,” Khenyeza said.

“We still need to control the excitement, we need to stay focused, and we only have 48 hours to celebrate before shifting our attention to our next game. There are a lot of positives we took from the game against Royal, and we are looking forward to the next game.”

Reflecting on his side’s recent performance against Polokwane City, the Citizens’ mentor Eric Tinkler expressed his relief at gaining maximum on home soil.

''Three points at home were extremely important,” Tinkler said.

“We needed to start on a front foot, because obviously five games into the league and only having five points for us as a club is not good enough.”

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Golden Arrows: Ryan Moon – The towering striker was at his best during Arrow’s 3-2 win against Royal AM, as seen with his clutch brace against the KwaZulu-natal outfit. With wind in his sails, Moon will no doubt be eager to get his name on the scoresheet yet again.

Cape town City: Hashim Domingo – With Arrows experiencing defensive frailties this season, Domingo’s skill and guile could cause the opposition backline problems this weekend. While Domingo has the ability to unlock the tightest of defences, the 29-year-old is also a goal threat from range.
