Paul Goydos, Doug Barron and Marco Dawson share the first-round lead at the inaugural Ascension Charity Classic in St. Louis after posting rounds of 5-under 66 on Friday.

Three-time major winner Vijay Singh of Fiji is one of five players one shot off the pace at Norwood Hills Country Club, along with Jim Furyk, Steve Flesch, Wes Short Jr. and Cliff Kresge.

Seven more players shot 3-under 68 on Friday, including Germany's Alex Cejka, who won the Champions Tour's first two majors of the season, and John Daly.

Barron, who carded five birdies, was the only one of the trio of leaders to play a bogey-free round. Dawson posted seven birdies along with two bogeys, while Goydos had six birdies and a bogey on No. 10.

Singh used an eagle at the par-5 eighth hole to finish his front nine at 3 under. He made one birdie and no bogeys the rest of the way to solidify him on the front page of the leaderboard.

German 64-year-old Bernhard Langer, the Schwab Cup points leader entering the week, opened the tournament with an even-par 71 and is tied for 28th.

The Ascension Charity Classic was set to debut in 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic led to its cancellation that year.
