Rodriguez stops Edwards in nine, Paul wins in first round

WBO flyweight champion Jesse Rodriguez stopped IBF flyweight champion Sunny Edwards in the ninth round in a unification matchup on Saturday night at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona.
Rodriguez 19-0; 12 proved to be too strong for Edwards 20-1; 4 who held his own in the early rounds.
However, Rodriguez 20-1; 4 dropped Edwards before the bell in the ninth round and the referee waved the fight off.

In a WBA junior featherweight title eliminator former unified champion Murodjon Akhmadaliev 12-1; 9 scored two knockdowns against Kevin Gonzalez 26-1-1; 13 in the sixth round; and after scoring another two knockdowns in the eighth round the fight was stopped.
Time was 2:49.
Olympic gold medallist Galal Yafai 6-0; 4 won a ten-round unanimous points decision against Rocco Santomauro 22-3, 6 in a WBC International flyweight bout.
Junior featherweight Ja’Rico O’Quinn 17-1-1; 9 won a fifth-round knockout against Peter McGrail 8-1; 5. McGrail was ahead before he was sent down and out from a counter right. Time was 2:19. O’Quinn claimed the WBA Continental belt.
DAVID MORRELL RETAINS WBA REGULAR BELT
WBA “regular” super middleweight champion David Morrell 10-0; 9 stopped Sena Agbeko 28-3; 22 in the second round on Saturday night at The Armory in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The bout was waved off by the referee at 1:43 into the round.
In a WBA lightweight eliminator, Jose “El Rayo” Valenzuela 13-2; 9 won on a sixth-round knockout against Chris “Primetime” Colbert 17-2; 6, The time was 1:46.
The 40-year-old former world champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero 38-6-1, 20 outpointed Andre Berto 32-6; 24 over ten rounds. The scores were 98-92, 98-92, 99-91.
Former WBA junior welterweight champion Alberto Puello 22-0; 10 came back from a 16-month layoff to outscore Ector Madera 11-1; 6 over eight rounds. Scores were 80-72, 80-72, 79-73.
2016 OLIMPIAN WINS ON EIGHT ROUND KNOCKOUT
2016 Olympian junior lightweight Tsendbaatar Erdenebat 8-0; 4 won on an eighth-round knockout against Yohan “La Fiera” Vasquez 25-5; 20 on Saturday night at New York City’s Sony Hall.
Erdenebat dominated before the bout was stopped at 2:29 into the eighth round.
RYUYA TSUGAWA WINS ON SECOND-ROUND KNOCKOUT
Junior featherweight Ryuya Tsugawa 12-1; 8 won in a second-round knockout over Filipino Prince Andrew Laurio 12-6-1; 9 on Saturday in Sakai, Osaka Prefecture, The time was 1;36.
Former OPBF middleweight champion Yuki Nonaka 37-12-3; 11fighting at super middleweight won on a second-round knockout over Thailander Pathueang Sikun 16-15; 12. The time was 1:19.
JOSH KELLY STOPS PLACIDO RAMIREZ IN THE THIRD ROUND
WBO No. 1 rated junior middleweight Josh Kelly 15-1-1; 8 won a third-round knockout against Placido Ramirez 24-4; 17 on Saturday night at the Beacon of Light in Sunderland, England.
Kelly landed an uppercut that sent Ramirez to a knee in the third round and was counted out.
Time was 2:38.
WBC NO 1 WINS ON A KNOCKOUT
The WBC No. 1 junior welterweight Sandor Martin 42-3; 15 won on a fourth-round knockout against Mohamed El Marcouchi 29-4; 12 on Saturday night at the Palasport Le Cupole in Turin, Italy.
Martin scored a knockdown in the second round and put Marcouchi down for the count in round four. Time was 2:02.
JAKE PAUL WINS IN FIRST ROUND
YouTuber-turned-cruiserweight boxer Jake Paul 8-1; 5 smashed Andre August 10-2-1; 5 to defeat in the first round on Friday night at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida.
The time was 2:32.
In a match for the WBC world and WBA interim female super middleweight titles, former undisputed champ Franchon Crews-Dezurn 9-2; 2 won on a ten-round unanimous decision over Shadasia Green 13-1; 11.
Junior middleweight Yoenis Tellez 7-0; 6 won on a tenth-round knockout over Livan Navarro 15-2; 9. The time was 1:21.
Heavyweight Lorenzo Medina 9-0; 8 came back from a second-round knockdown to stop Joshua Temple 12-3; 10 in the sixth round. Time 0:29.
Phumelela Cafu favourite to win vacant SA title
Phumelela Cafu goes into his fight against Enathi Stelle as the favourite when they meet for the vacant South African junior bantamweight title at the Orient Theatre in East London on Saturday night.
The southpaw Cafu 9-0-3; 7 made his pro debut in May 2018 and won the vacant WBF International flyweight title before going on to fighting a creditable draw against the vastly more experienced Jackson Chauke in a challenge for the South African flyweight title
In a return fight with Chauke on 23 December 2022 he won on a split decision and in his most recent fight on the 20 August this year he won on points over ten rounds against the experienced Genisis Libranza.
Stelle 6-4 (5) has not fought at the same level as Cafu and only goes into the fight with a puncher's chance.
Cafu is listed as ranked at No. 1 and Stelle is at No. 2.
They will be fighting for the title that was vacated by Landile Ngxeke 12-1; 5 who will meet Lusizo “Speed Fire” Manzana 10-1; 4 for the vacant SA bantamweight title on the same bill.
This is an even matchup but most of the pundits favour Ngxeke to win on a close decision

Sunny Edwards and Jesse Rodrigues meet in unification matchup
Jesse Rodriguez who holds the WBO flyweight belt and Sunny Edwards the IBF flyweight champion meet in a unification matchup in Glendale, Arizona on Saturday night.
Croydon’s Edwards 20-0; 4 goes in against the also unbeaten San Antonio’s Rodriguez 18-0; 11), as both claim to be the number one flyweight in the world.
Rodriguez is a two-division champion following his defeat of Carlos Cuadros for the WBC junior bantamweight title last February.
The 23-year-old Rodriguez won on a seventh-round stoppage against former champion Sor Srisaket Rungvisai in his first defence and then retained the belt against Israel Gonzalez.
He then moved down to flyweight and outscored Cristian Hernandez to claim the vacant WBO belt in April.
Edwards won the IBF title when he outpointed South Africa’s Moruti Mthalane and has now made four successful defences of the belt.
These are two outstanding fighters and the fight could go either way despite some pundits calling it four Rodriguez.
